Impending Review

Once again JB Hi-Fi has called me to it with its siren song promising cheap DVDs and freebies. After being on a bit of a downer after a sub par uni presentation the call was too hard to ignore and I needed to purchase something, anything that looked cheap but interesting. I came out with a variety of different movies which I will be looking to review at some stage in the near future and those movies are:

2 Days In Paris- Director: Julie Delpy, Stars: Julie Delpy (Marion), Adam Goldberg (Jack). Back of the Box Plot: A zippy, romantic comedy similar to Woody Allen's movies of the 70's it focuses around a couple trying to have a romantic time in Paris on the last 2 days of their holiday. What follows is hilarious miscommunication, questions over whether they can save their relationship or have sex again it is said to be effortlessly stylish and bitingly funny.

Before The Devil Knows You're Dead (Actually got this a while ago but still haven't watched it) - Director: Sidney Lumet, Stars: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Marisa Tomei and Albert Finney. Back of the Box Plot: Focusing around the robbery of a mom and pop jewellery story, the story looks at the events which lead up to this decision to rob the store and the consequences of the robbery from several points of view. Combining elements of a suspenseful heist thriller and family drama it draws out the ideas of sin and evil to craft a thriller that is in a league of its own.

Oldboy-Director: Chanwook Park, Stars: Choi Min-Sik, Yoo Ji-Tae, Gang Hye-Jung. Back of the Box Plot: It follows the story of a businessman who after a night of drinking is taken without reason, imprisoned for 15 years, released without reason and has 5 days to seek the truth.Supposedly it rivals Kill Bill for thrills, spills and spectacle and is energetic, funny, insane and a turbo-charged explosion of narrative.

Speed Racer- Directors: The Wachowski Brothers, Stars: Emile Hirsch, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Christina Ricci and Matthew Fox. Back of the Box Plot: Speed Racer is a high octane adventure which combines family humour with stunning, some may say too stunning, visual effects. Speed Racer (Hirsch) is a natural born race driver and with the future of his family (Goodman and Sarandon) resting on his ability to race Speed must battle through some stiff competition in this adrenalie-fueled, high speed race to the finish.

The Air I Breathe- Director: Jieho Lee, Stars: Brendan Fraser, Forest Whittaker, Andy Garcia, Julie Delpy, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kevin Bacon and Emile Hirsch. Back of the Box Plot: Happiness. Sorrow. Pleasure. Love. The story of four very different yet very desperate people who are all linked by their destinies. The cast bring to life the stories of a clairvoyant gangster, a rising pop star, an unlikely bank robber and a doctor desperate to save the love of his life. Presenting a gritty urban world where violence and poetry mix it is a suspenseful, action-filled drama with many twists and turns along the way.
