Call of Duty Universe to Get Bigger?

The Call of Duty universe is already an exhaustive one with a heap of games set in both World War 2 and now the Modern era plus the popular, new character Ghost also has his own comic book miniseries. Now that universe could be set to expand in two different ways.

The brilliant Call of Duty games are headed by two completely different studios. The two Modern era games are developed by Infinity Ward while games like Call of Duty World at War are developed by Treyarch. The studios take turns in releasing a Call of Duty game annually. Now, if reports are to be believed, Activision (who owns both studios) are looking to bring a third studio into the mix to create Call of Duty games. There is speculation as to whether this studio will come in to help develop the massively multiplayer online Call of Duty game that Activision has been teasing for over a year. On the other hand the studio could be coming in to solely develop games for handhelds like the iPhone or the DSi because every major studio seems to be trying to cash in on the iPhone and DSi craze at the moment. At the moment it's just a rumour going round but I'd like to see another Call of Duty studio thrown into the mix working on console games. Whether they are there to do the MMO game or even a real time strategy game, that could be quite cool in my opinion. They could take cues from Halo Wars, World In Conflict and Warhammer 40K Dawn of War developing a squad system that gets some kick ass support options and then for levels when you are Marines you can call in reinforcements. A different style of Call of Duty game could be very cool.

Meanwhile what is gearing up to be the biggest selling entertainment product ever, Modern Warfare 2 (made $US550 million in its first week), is slowly building some momentum for a live action movie adaptation. This bit of speculation hit the web a few months before the game came out but now with its huge success in only its first week of release the hype is building for a live action movie. Kevin McKidd, who voiced Captain 'Soap' MacTavish in the game, has spoken about the possibilities of a live action movie. McKidd said " I had no idea it would be so huge, and now there are talks of a feature film," and when asked if he would like to reprise his role in the movie he replied with "if the script is good...then absolutely". It seems a no brainer that Modern Warfare 2 would get a film made out of it when many lesser games are already penciled in for their own movie adaptation. For some reason though I just picture the somewhat average Sum of All Fears whenever I try to think what a Modern Warfare movie would be like and obviously the two games would need to be combined for one movie or made into two separate movies for it to make any sense.
